House Keeping,
Mixed Media on Wood,
16 in. x 47 in.,
Email for Price

I found a ad on craigslist the other day offering free wood to the first person who could come and get it. I went over and found that the Urban Outfitters was the location. I scored something around 50 pieces of wood that I can now use for canvas.

Living in a hotel on the road can be difficult. You get off stage around 2 in the morning. You wait sometimes until 3 to get your paycheck, then get back to the hotel sometime before 4 most nights. I figure If I can get in 8 hours sleep, I'm doing all right since most hotels have a check out time at 12 noon. You get to the point where you cherish every hour that you do get to sleep, but even then, you still feel like its not enough. From Houston, to Mexico, to New York City, to San Diego, if never fails to amaze me that where ever I stay, I always put the, "Do Not Disturb" sign on my door. And for some reason, they always knock, or call, asking, "House Keeping, are you going to stay another night?" Nope. But here is Ode to the Hardest working employees in the Hotel Buisness.

Leroy, 2011
Acrylic on Wood
12 in. x 22 in.

Before my show at Zapatos in College Station Texas, I would always meet Leroy over at Dudleys draw for some shots and Donkey Kong Action. This is how I remember him, telling stories and setting high scores.

Self Portrait on the Greyhound, 2011
Mixed Media on Canvas
16 in. x 20 in.
Email for Info

You see a lot of weird things when you travel on the Greyhound. After taking the Greyhound enough, you also learn a a lot of things as well. One, for instance: As appealing as the back row of seats seem, staking out these seats for yourself is a bad idea. For one, they don't recline. Sure, you can lay on your side and have more room than you would normally have in a regular seat, but sometimes, the bus fills up. And now you're stuck in the middle of two people and your sitting at a 90 degree angle on a 12 hour bus ride (that should only be 4 hours by car) and your hung over and you took the wrong schedule and now have to stop at every town on the map. Also, these three seats in the back are right near the restroom. The restroom on the greyhound is a heavy traffic area with heavy odors coming from within. You're better off finding something near the front of the bus. Easy on, easy off. Also, bring extra snacks. It's nice to have a snack on the bus.

Floyd, 2011
Acrylic on Canvas
22 in. x 28 in.
Email for Info

Floyd is my buddy's dog. Every time I stay with him, I try to play with his basset hound, but he is very elusive. I though his flying goggles and his favorite quote would go great on his painting. He loves The Three Amigos and has every episode of Modern Family on DVR.

Frio at Dusk, 2011
Acrylic on Canvas
2ft. by 4ft.
Email for Price

If you've ever been to the Garner State Park near Uvlade Texas, then you most likely have seen this part of the river. The Frio is one of my favorite spots on earth. My dog and I used to fish on the bank to left in this painting. If you plan it right, you can camp out there and be the only ones in the park. The water is clear like a swimming pool, and the air out is a sweet southern breeze sweeping through the canyon walls. We would sit here late into the night fishing and sipping run with cold beer chasers.

Acrylic on Canvas
4 ft by 3 1/2 ft.
Email for Price

A month before we went to Central America, I wanted to paint what I though Panama might look like. I wasn't to far off in my head. Panama City is very urban with huge "Cocaine" towers that the Columbian Drug Lords supposedly build to launder money. But Bocas Del Toro, and the surrounding jungle is some of the most dense and unexplored terrain on earth. We went to Red Frog Beach, but we didn't see any Red Frogs.

Construction Cactus, 2006
Acrylic on Canvas Board

We use to always spend out summer vacation out in Brownfield Texas. My aunt had a poster called, "Building a Rainbow." It had a thousand ants on it using cranes and tractors, and all kinds of construction equipment and they were building a rainbow.

In 2006, I was living in San Miguel Mexico with a friend. We were into the Mescal pretty heavy then and were sitting on the roof deck painting like always when I remembered the rainbow. Mine came out a cactus.

San Pedro Sweetheart, 2010
Acrylic on Paper
22 in. x 32 in.
SOLD

I went to the bar one night across the street from my loft while I was living in San Pedro near the Port of L.A. You could say it was a dive but it was fun and the people that went there had fun. One night they had a cover band playing. I went in and posted up in the corner and listened and watched. The band was ok but the people dancing were greatness! That's when I saw The San Pedro Sweetheart break it down to a cover of American Woman. She was wearing Combat boots with white socks nearly pulled up to her knees. She had a Plaid school girl skirt on and a bra, nothing else. She had Bangs and a mullet braided long down her back. She was covered head to toe in Tattoos and brother, she won.

Its hard being on the run from Johnny Law. They will find you and hand cuff you and take you to jail. They will take you downtown to Jail Town.

I found a photo of a Border Patrol Agent in a "Life on the Border" Book I found at the Goodwill. Something about this guy I felt deserved to be in a painting. I feel like he's saying, " Try it, but it won't work. Cause I will catch you. You can't out run a radio."

We Spent Christmas in Palm Springs this year lounging by the pool and ordering room service. It was very pleasant. We stayed at the Riviera Spa And Hotel. This is the time of year to go, it was not crowded at all. They had fire pits near the pool which was warming at night seeing that the desert gets cold when the sun goes down. Supposedly the Rat Pack use to hang around there and play songs late into the night. We drank at the front bar near the piano and eventually the place got crowded. Some of the older ladies where dressed to the tee with too much make up and too much perfume. They sipped there Martinis and we got drunk. We came home to L.A. and I painted this.

At some point in your life you find the things that were important to you when you were younger are no longer important and you wonder why you gave so much attention to them at that time in your life. Some people hold onto those things as they grow older and sometimes those things can drag you down.

When I saw this fellow here, I thought he might be a pimp from the south side of Chicago that drove a pink Cadillac. But then it made sense to me. He's more of mature person these days and has gave up that life. He's actually a talented drummer making a good living entertaining. He's grown up. The problem is, his old lady hasn't. She clings to her 20's, living like a child in a 38 year old body. So now it's come to a head and our fellow in the nice suit with the pink caddy is like, " I'm tired of opening that door everyday and finding you burned out, boozed up, and ugly. "

Night time does bring a cool breeze. Especially in the 1980's on the streets of Harlem. Cool Shades, cool hat, and a Adidas jump suit were the order of the day. Cruising in a 1980 Fleet wood Cadillac over to the store to make sure my money's right. Son.

I heard a quote one time about how to get rid of your fear of something by doing the thing you fear. Then I started thinking about the first settlers to head out west. These people had to be scared of the Native Americans on who's land they were about to cross. Then I started to think about Cold Beer and Al Pastor Tacos from the Taco Trucks in Mexico. Al Pastor has got to be some of the tastiest Tacos I have ever eaten. Put a little Cilantro, onion and squirt some lime on there and your set. This painting here is the mixture of Al Pastor Tacos, Negra Modelo Beer and Overcoming the things your fear.
